WHAT’S NEW • HERE IS OUR ROUND-UP OF SOME OF THE TRENDS BEING SEEN IN 2020.

Words to live by

QUIRKY & COLOURFUL • This small 1960s-style house gave its young new owners, Makien Verkroost and Stephan Kuiper, the ideal chance to create a space that would adapt to their needs.

LET’S EAT! • Our dining room, these days often part of an open-plan space that includes the lounge and kitchen, is where we get together around the table. Here are a few ideas for making this space special.

FRESH BREEZE • By being a bit creative and having a scratch around in your house (or perhaps borrowing from a neighbour) you can easily breathe new life into your dining room.

NEW SEAT COVER • We had to scratch and scrape for this project, which was done during lockdown. Our chair was just a frame without a seat, so we first had to beg the neighbours for a piece of wood and some thick sponge. We cut the wood to size and sliced up the sponge, which was a long strip, and then did a bit of a jigsaw puzzle with the sponge pieces to cover the whole seat. We used a glue gun to stick them onto the wood and covered them with a fabric remnant to secure them a bit more. Then we could finally get on with the upholstery!

AT YOUR SERVICE • Use an easy transfer technique to create personalised serving boards or pot stands.

LIGHT & LACY • Create a decorative, delicate lace screen for a window.

BRANCHING OUT • Make this tree box to turn a dry branch into a decorative showstopper.

TIME OUT • Sew this floor cushion and pillow and create a reading or meditation corner for yourself.

BREAKING BREAD • THESE FLATBREADS ARE JUST WHAT YOU NEED TO DUNK INTO DIPS AND SOUPS, OR SCOOP UP YOUR SAUCY CURRIES, OR WRAP AROUND A SCRUMPTIOUS FILLING.

TAKE COMFORT • These winter treats are all about rich, sweet flavours. Take advantage of the therapy that baking brings and the comfort of eating these desserts with the ones you love.

GOLDEN GLOW • INSPIRED BY TURMERIC’S RICH COLOUR AND HEALING BENEFITS FOR BODY AND MIND, WE CRAFTED A FEW ITEMS TO ADD A BIT OF SUNSHINE AND WARMTH TO THE COLD WINTER DAYS.

SUNSHINE YARN • Use turmeric to dye your wool a sunshine yellow.

BUILDING BLOCKS • Put your own spin on the geometric pattern trend and make these block-inspired items using things you already have in your home.

STYLISH SOAP

GEOMETRIC WALL

Keep calm and carry on crafting • AS OUR FAST-PACED LIVES HAVE SCREECHED TO A HALT, WE CAN TAKE REFUGE IN CRAFTS AND GOOD HABITS THAT WILL HELP US TO STAY CALM IN TURBULENT TIMES.

LET’S TRAVEL • These 30 travel movies will keep you dreaming about the open road, beautiful cities, awe-inspiring landscapes and getting away from it all.

ON TOUR, AT HOME • If you use your imagination, a coat of paint and your senses correctly, you can tour to your heart’s content without leaving your house.

ISOLATION MAKES • While we were all in level-five lockdown, the team kept each other inspired by sharing our creative...
