Embroidered Shirt UPCYCLE PROJECT

SWAPPING SQUARES FOR Squiggles • Chicago-based artist Emily Van Hoff has made a few traditional quilts over the years, but once she started thinking outside of squares, rectangles and two-dimensional forms, a world of creative possibilities opened up to her. Her very first art quilt was a piece featuring curved shapes, which would be the first of many Squiggle quilts and lead her to experimenting with other shapes and three-dimensional pieces too. This innovative and modern approach to quiltmaking continues to take Emily in new and exciting directions.

Rainbow Teardrops QUILT • With more than 36 years of experience since emigrating to Australia from the UK, Marilyn Bell is a passionate designer who thrives on the creative challenge of working from her substantial fabric stash. Her work is defined by a love for bright colours and original quilt design. Marilyn enjoys exploring her local patchwork shops and connecting with charity sewing groups, continuing to spread the joy of the craft in her community.

Floral Ring EMBROIDERY • Bobbie Watts is a textile designer who enjoys a variety of media but considers herself an embroiderer at heart. Through many years of embroidering, Bobbie has developed her own distinctive style and enjoys quietly making one-of-a-kind pieces from her idyllic home in Tasmania. Australiana is always close to her heart and she is proud to share her new Floral Ring embroidery design, inspired by the gum blossoms of country Australia.

Artisan JOURNAL COVER • With a background in fashion education, Katherine Golchert’s technical expertise spans pattern making, sewing, knitting, embroidery and couture finishing. However, Katherine’s current focus is on her creative talents — particularly crochet and yarn bombing. The reusable Artisan Journal Cover was born out of a desire for a more engaging design to protect the notebooks she carries daily. By utilising yarn scraps from past projects, Katherine developed a piece that balances practical utility with a thoughtful expression of her textile background.

Santa STOCKING • Based on the Sunshine Coast, Gowri Paary is a Malaysian-Australian sewist, mother, wife, teacher and pattern maker. She possesses a deep love for all things art, a passion she currently explores through learning how to draw and indulging in ceramics. Gowri thrives on meeting and connecting with fellow sewists within the creative community. While she typically creates clothing patterns, she is continuously expanding her technical skill set and is thrilled to work with Homespun on the Santa Stocking.

BEADED FELT ORNAMENTS • While Claire McSorley has always loved all forms of craft, these felt ornaments have become her favourite project during the holiday season — not to mention a viral sensation! These ornaments check all the boxes for a great gifting project: customisable for each recipient, quick enough to finish in an afternoon and budget-friendly when it comes to...
