“I WANT TO KEEP MAKING HISTORY”: THE SCHOOLGIRL WHO BROKE HOU YIFAN’S RECORD • An 11-year-old from Harrow has become the youngest player in history to complete the requirements for the Woman Grandmaster title, doing it on England’s top board at the Chess Olympiad in Samarkand. Bodhana Sivanandan scored 8/11, with draws against Nana Dzagnidze and European champion Anastasiia Hnatyshyn, and the third and final norm came before the last round. She is 11 years, six months and 18 days, ahead of Hou Yifan, who was 12 when she took the title in 2006. Told by FIDE that she had made the record, she did not linger on it. “I’m happy to do it, but I want to keep going and keep making history as well, instead of just stopping here.”
